One of the most powerful ideas in modern philosophy is the Übermensch, a concept created by the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche in his book Thus Spoke Zarathustra.

Übermensch is often translated as “Overman” or “Superman.” It basically describes a person who improves themselves and rises above ordinary thinking.

Nietzsche believed people should move beyond blindly following society’s rules, traditions and moral values. Instead, individuals should create their own meaning and values in life.

Nietzsche also famously said that “God is dead.” By this he did not mean that a god literally died. He meant that, in modern society, many people no longer rely on religion to guide their morals and purpose in life.

This situation can lead to nihilism, the belief that life has no real meaning or value. The idea of the Übermensch is the answer to this problem. Instead of feeling hopeless, the Übermensch accepts that life has no fixed meaning and creates new values for themselves.

The Übermensch is not someone who controls or dominates other people. Instead, it is someone who has control over themselves.

Nietzsche also defined – The Last Man – as someone who only wants comfort, safety and an easy life. They avoid challenges, risks and big ambitions. They prefer security and equality and do not try to achieve greatness.

The Übermensch is the opposite of the last man. This person accepts challenges, grows through difficulties and keeps improving themselves. They question social rules, avoid following the crowd and work to develop their own goals and values.

Being an Übermensch is not a final goal that humans suddenly reach. Instead, it is an ongoing process of growth. Humans are like a bridge between animals and the Übermensch – a stage of development, not the finished result.

This idea encourages people to treat their lives like a work of art, shaping their character and future with creativity and courage. It also reflects affirmation in life, meaning saying “yes” to life even when it includes pain, struggle and uncertainty.

At its core, the concept asks people to take full responsibility for their lives and to have the courage to live without depending on ready-made meanings from society.

In the end, the idea of the Übermensch is a symbol of human potential. It challenges us to ask an important question:

Are we simply accepting the values given to us or are we brave enough to create our own?

Most people suppress this drive. Social pressure, fear of failure and the desire for comfort can cause individuals to follow the crowd rather than pursue their own path. When this happens, people lose the opportunity to fully develop their potential.

Do not loose yourself in the crowd. Discover your True Self and enjoy your time on this earth. That is what You were born for.
