“न ही लक्ष्मी कुलक्रमज्जता, न ही भूषणों उल्लेखितोपि वा।
खड्गेन आक्रम्य भुंजीतः , वीर भोग्या वसुंधरा।।”
This can be translated as
“Neither is wealth attained by birth in a rich family,
nor is it gained through ornaments or decoration.
With sword in hand and courage displayed,
It is the brave who enjoy the rewards of the earth.”
It is said that Shri Krishna told Arjun – Veer Bhogaye Vasundhara – the brave warriors will enjoy the bounties of the Earth. It was true then, it is true now, it will remain true always.
What does it mean to be a Veer? Why should you be a Veer?
A Veer is a warrior or a brave person. The word “warrior” can be defined as a person who fights against challenges, circumstances and situations that are not favourable for the person, until they change in favour of the person. You need to be a warrior to live a fruitful and fulfilling life.
Unfortunately in today’s world, most of us are taught to be cogs in the system. Do your job/duty, live in a particular way and die. This works for a short time but sooner rather than later a sense of hopelessness and despair sets in. Then the individual resorts to various different addictions – first momentarily, then permanently – to escape the banality of their life. Is one condemned to such an existence?
Animals have limited intelligence and consciousness. An animal is fully wired by nature and basic survival instincts. An animal will do what it takes to survive in the wild until it is overpowered by another animal. Animal state is defined as the state when a human lives like an animal – basic survival or day-to-day existence without understanding their own human consciousness.
A Veer is a person who has overcome the Pashu or animal state. A Veer is a person who is aware of their senses and desires and uses them to advance their own consciousness. Yes, your senses and desires can help you in your spiritual quest.
How does one become a Veer?
There are many ways to become a Veer. The easiest path is meditation. As you meditate, your consciousness starts to rise and expand. An increased consciousness helps you know yourself better. This leads one to not to settle for mediocrity or comfort, but to be proactive in carving their own path. Once you start living on your own terms, life becomes a playground for you.
Meditation is not for when you are old or when you are down. Meditation is for now. Meditation is for you if you wish to live life on your own terms. Meditation is for you if you have the courage to discover yourself.
The earth is here – for us to enjoy the bounties she gives selflessly. If we don’t accept it, it’s our fault not the fault of the earth or the universe.
Veer Bhogaye Vasundhara – the timeless message to guide us all – be a warrior (Veer) and enjoy (Bhogaye) the world (Vasundhara).
